Two people were killed and 10 others were missing after a ship leaving Cuba capsized on Thursday near the Florida Keys. officials said
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a remote location miles outside of Key West. At about 1 p.m., the crew rescued eight people and pulled two bodies from the water. Petty Officer Jose Hernandez said.
Hernandez said two Coast Guard cutters and several smaller boats were still searching the area Thursday evening for missing passengers. There was no immediate sign of the ship capsized.
The survivors reported that they left Puerto de Mariel, Cuba, on Sunday. and overturned on Wednesday evening. A Coast Guard official said. They will remain on Coast Guard cutters where they will receive food, water and basic medical care.
