Three Arizona men were arrested in Goleta on Thursday because of the robbery that happened hours earlier in Carpinteria, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers were sent around 5:40 am to Chevron gas stations at Via Real and Santa Monica Streets in Carpinteria after a woman reported she was hit by her friend. Rob Rakhelzik, the sheriff’s public information officer said.
The woman was reported to have been with three men in the car when she was robbed by them.They left her behind and fled the scene.
About three hours later, an alert citizen aware of the theft reported to the sheriff̵7;s dispatcher that the vehicle was suspected, apparently with a flat tire at a tire shop on South Fairview Avenue 200 blocks, Zick said.
Officers gathered in the area and took three men into custody with nothing happening.
A man holding a firearm, Zick added.
South Fairview Avenue was shut down, or for a short time, as the officers arrested the three.
As of late afternoon, the three men, whose names are not yet named – are still being investigated, Zick said, and have not been booked in the Santa Barbara County jail.
There are no details on the expenses that may be faced.
Zic praised the citizen for notifying officers of the suspect’s whereabouts, noting that he was still at a safe distance while transmitting the information.
