BETHEL PARK, Pa. Some negative side effects have been reported worldwide from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine. But a Bethel Park woman told Channel 11 she was affected by something that had never been seen before: paralysis.
The 33-year-old, who asked to remain anonymous, said she was well within hours after receiving her first Pfizer vaccine last week. However, she said 12 hours later, she woke up in the middle of the night with no feeling in her arms or legs.

“It’s the scariest thing in the world to sleep soundly (and walk), wake up 1:30 in the morning and not be able to move,” the woman said. Call for help “
The doctors came and rushed her to Jefferson Hospital. Over the next few days, she was transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Northside and the Cleveland Clinic, while doctors performed a number of tests to find out how and why the MRI and spinal tap were clear and blood work. All of them came back negative, considering it was a rare disease or disorder.
“There is nothing that they will find fault in me. No underlying conditions, I have nothing in my bio and they basically tell me that ‘You’re healthy and we can’t understand why this is the case,’ ‘the woman told Channel 11.
Fortunately, she was able to regain the sensation and strength in her arms. But she’s still unable to work from her lower chest down, besides making the slightest movement in a few inches.
Dr. Dave Weber, an infectious disease doctor at UPMC, said he had never heard of anything like this happening anywhere in the world with the Pfizer vaccine.
“I’m sure there is more than one explanation, and it will be pre-scheduled for me to determine if it is a side effect of the vaccine,” Weber said.
Pfizer’s director of global public relations released the following statement on the woman’s mysterious paralysis:
“We take the adverse events that may be associated with our COVID-19 BNT162b2 vaccine very seriously. We closely monitor such events and collect relevant information to share with global regulators. At this time, our ongoing investigation has not found any safety signs of paralysis and vaccines. Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 To date, more than 2001 million people worldwide have been vaccinated with our vaccines. It is important to note that serious adverse events not related to vaccines are, unfortunately, occurring at rates similar to those in the general population. ”
Meanwhile, the woman was concerned that her condition pointed to the vaccine and feared it could be permanent. Her family confirmed to Channel 11 that her case was reported to Pfizer.
