Bill and Melinda Gates announced Monday they are ending the 27-year marriage.
“After much thought and work on our relationship, we made the decision to end our marriage,” they said in a joint statement. “Over the past 27 years, we have raised three amazing children and built a viable foundation. Around the world to provide everyone with a healthy and productive life. “
The statement added that they do not “believe that we can grow together as a couple in the later stages of this life.
The couple founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, a private charity fundraising research and support for work around the world, including in some of the world̵7;s poorest countries.
The Foundation has made billions to support issues such as global health, development and education, as well as fighting climate change and the COVID-19 epidemic.
Bill Gates, who co-founded Microsoft in 1975 and served as chief executive until 2000, stepped down from the company’s board of directors last year and has focused most of its philanthropic efforts.
He still owns approximately 1.3 percent of Microsoft stock, his net worth is approximately $ 124 billion, according to Forbes.
