Witnesses of several car crashes in Maryland on Sunday were hailed as a hero after helping a toddler in a car seat was driven out in a bay near Ocean City.
Five car crashes occurred on a bridge across the Asswaman Bay just before 3 p.m., the city fire department said in a statement.
A 2-year-old girl was ejected from a pick-up truck which was “toothed” above the railing.
“A brave witness jumped from a bridge into the bay and saved the life of the child,” city officials said in a statement.
The girl flew to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was in stable condition, officials said.
It was not clear what caused the accident, which injured seven others.
Witnesses asked to remain anonymous, the official said.
