Improved temporary fix for the ‘My Turn’ issue.
Many COVID-19 vaccination appointments are available in the area this week, and Humboldt County residents are encouraged to register now at MyTurn.ca.gov Don̵7;t wait for a callback, although My Turn is designed to alert you of upcoming openings. But the best way to find existing appointments is to check the website regularly.
The state’s My Turn portal has provided geofencing that restricts people living more than 40 miles from clinical sites from viewing existing appointments, meaning that most Southern Humboldt residents cannot view or schedule appointments. This is affecting many California rural counties and local health officials are working directly with the state.
Until the state resolves the issue, when prompted to “enter your address or zip code”, county residents should only enter “Humboldt County” on the “Let’s Find an Appointment” page of My Turn website. Schedule an appointment. This means residents will enter “Humboldt County” in two different locations.
Anyone with questions can call their state’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-833-422-4255. Or call the Humboldt County Joint Information Center at 707-441-5000.
There are other options for My Turn as well. Walk-in vaccination hours are scheduled from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday through Sunday at Arcata Community Center, located at 321 Dr. Martin Luther King, Pkwy. The federal government also supports the scheduling of vaccination through local pharmacies. https://vaccinefinder.org/
Johnson & Johnson vaccine continues to ‘pause’
The administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine remains on hold. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will meet to review rare cases of blood clots. But it was serious, which occurred in six women after they received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, said Dr. Anthony Fosy, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. On whether there will be a decision on whether to pause next when the committees meet on Friday.
