Quantum computing expert Andrew Fursman believes future quantum attacks pose a threat to the security of Bitcoin (BTC).
In the video, Fursman stressed that the massive computational potential of the quantum machine could weaken the security of Bitcoin.
“It has been proven mathematically that if you have a device that looks like the kind of quantum computer that people want to build, then you can decode this data better than ever with classic devices.
Fursman argues that no matter what age quantum computers enter, there must be a solution.
“Whether quantum computers come out tomorrow or in five or ten years, they can take advantage of encryption. Those gadgets will be able to do some things you might not want if you̵7;re the kind of person who keeps secrets …
Hence, it is worthwhile to take a look at the different ways in which blockchains relied on encryption, and which are particularly relevant to what future quantum computers might do. And how much of a problem is that for people today compared to not at all? And what may not be a problem But may we want to continue? It’s better to be safe than sorry. “
While Fursman said the quantum machine could put Bitcoin’s crypto in jeopardy. But he noted that it won’t happen anytime soon.
“We may need significantly more qubits (quantum bits or units of quantum information) than what is currently available. And just as I mentioned, we may be at a point where the largest computers we are building today become the foundations of the logical qubit for these larger devices …
So, if we want a thousand times more qubits in the next few years, you have to think about the growth of them from both a bug-correction perspective and the number of logical qubits you have to keep going …
And I should say that some people put in the numbers as high as a million that you might want. So we, of course, are not in the corner from now on. It won’t happen next week. “
