Earthquake swarms include a 5.3-magnitude quake near the Salton Sea in Imperial County: USGS



CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KABC) — A series of earthquakes of magnitude 5.3 occurred near the Salton Sea in Imperial County on Saturday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

The seismic quake began shortly before 11 a.m., with a 5.3-magnitude quake struck at 10:55 a.m. at a depth of 3 miles, the USGS said. The epicenter was about west of Calipatria. 7 miles away from El. Centro, 25 miles north, a city north of the US-Mexico border.

The 4.3-magnitude quake was also among dozens recorded in the area on Saturday morning. According to the Bureau of Geological Survey

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or damage.
