The talented Antonio Callaway But has a knack for finding a new home
Callaway, who selected the 2018 Cleveland Browns’ fourth-round draft, has signed a futures deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, sources told Yahoo Sports.
Callaway, 24, fell into the draft after a busy college work in Florida. But Brown is betting on the ability to keep the 5-foot-11 200 pounds in time so they can hone their game-breaking potential. He showed a flash as a rookie, catching 43 hits over 586 yards and five touchdowns. But it was suspended twice in 2019 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and was released by Cleveland in November 2019.
Callaway signed with the Miami Dolphins’ training team in September, while he was suspended over past problems. The club released him in late December after he made two passes in 20 yards over five games.
Only players who were not on the NFL team’s active roster at the end of the regular season will be eligible for these contracts, which are basically free trials for players during the off-season. The team also signed former Washington State defender Anthony Gordon on a futures contract on Tuesday.
The Chiefs face Brown on Sunday in the AFC group stage.
