WASHINGTON ̵1; White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fosy warned on Monday that Americans should continue to be vigilant and take public health measures due to the warmer summer months.
“You may remember more than a year ago when we were looking for the summer to save us from a surge, in fact the opposite,” Fauci said during a White House corona virus briefing.
“We have seen huge increases in the summer. I don’t think we should think of relying on the weather to bail us out of everything we are in now,” he added.
Fauci also said on Monday that Americans should receive both the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines, although a recent study suggested a single dose was sufficient.
Previously, Fauci had warned that while the Biden administration increased its vaccine capacity and continued to administer record-breaking doses of the vaccine. But this country is still fighting coronavirus.
“When I heard a complete pull back on public health, saying no more masks, nothing like that, that was a risky business,” Fauci said during an interview last month with the Dodo.
“Don’t put the ball on the 5-yard line, wait until you get into the end zone, we are not in the end zone yet,” he said, adding that early pullouts from public health measures could prolong the epidemic.
Likewise, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have advised Americans to refrain from continuing travel because of coronavirus cases nationwide.
“We know that now that we have a growing number of cases, I would be against general travel overall,” CDC director Rochelle Walensky said last week. “We do not recommend travel at the moment, especially for those who are not vaccinated,” she added.
Last month, states across the country have eased restrictions on varying levels.
