In addition to photographing the stars A key addition from June’s Pixel Feature Drop, Google Photos Locked Folder, first announced at I/O, is now rolling out via a server-side update.
Once used on your device You will receive a notification. Tap “Set Locked Folder” from the Google Photos app. Tapping it initiates the setup process for the company, giving you an overview of what this capability can do:
- Hide items from the photo grid, searches, and apps accessing your device’s photos.
- Open with your device screen lock.
- Items will not be backed up or shared.
After verifying with your unlock method (fingerprint, PIN, etc.), you will be able to access the locked folder. This can be opened at any time from the “Library”; > “Utilities” tab (at the top) > “Locked folders” (near the bottom of the list).
You get a grid view of the media. while a button at the top right lets you “move items” to a locked folder. This is done through a standard time-lapse camera roll view with a search box at the top. When you transfer an existing photo, Google warns “Items in the locked folder can’t be backed up or shared (and how can it be stopped)?” So if you’ve uploaded it to Google Photos, it will be deleted in your system. and exists only in the local copy.
Other security features This means that you cannot take screenshots while in a safe area. While there are only two things you can do with your stored content: “Move out of locked folder” or “Delete permanently”. “People you share your device screen lock with can unlock locked folders.”
meanwhile You can save new photos and videos to a locked folder directly from the Google Camera app after updating the app to version 8.2.400, which is still rolling out through the Play Store and at the same time as photo notifications. You’ll see a circle icon in the top-right corner of the viewfinder.
Tapping will ask if you want. “Save to” photo gallery (default storage) or locked folder (Storage using device screen lock) The first one has a gray and white icon. while the latter is a rather prominent purple padlock icon and reminds you that you are in ‘lock mode’ mode.
The Google Photos Locked Folder for Pixel phones was just released after Monday’s announcement. Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Camera app and Photos installed (5.45).
