How to split your work hours in Google Calendar

The workday is evolving in 2020 and tools are adapting to accommodate that. Google announces Small tweaks in Google Calendar Important: You can divide your workday into several pieces.

The working hours feature in Google Calendar, with each working day split between 6-10 AM and 1-5 AM.

The Hours feature lets you identify which hours are part of your workday, which is important when someone tries to schedule a meeting with you. For example, Deb at my manager, Zapier, works 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Eastern region, this is how i try to date her

Before this change you could only set one time period as shown above. Now you can add multiple groups.

In the first screenshot of this article, you can see that I split my time into two blocks: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.This is what Deb looks like when she tries to make an appointment with me.

As you can see, the middle of the day is gray now. It’s subtle, but Google makes it more specific.I wouldn’t work if Deb tried to reserve my time.

When trying to schedule purple appointments

This is important for remote teams because Irregular schedules are part of what makes working remotely great. For example, some people on my team work in morning shifts and afternoon shifts so they can spend the day on distance learning with their kids.

Google’s shift means that people who work a few shifts every day will be able to show this on their calendars.

There are other changes involved: You can now set up regular out-of-office appointments. Google Calendar’s out of office feature It allows you to block your away hours of work and then automatically reject all current and future appointments during that period. Recurring The Out of Office feature means you can set the fourth Friday of every month as a day when you will not be working.

Again, it’s a little change. But one thing that reflects how remote working is changing the way everyone works 9 to 5, five days a week, is a relic of the past – more and more tools we use reflect that.
