As part of this year’s Virtual Computex, Intel has revealed additional new additions to its 11th-generation mobile processor lineup. The processor is based on Intel’s Evo platform and has built-in Iris Xe graphics and WiFi 6. The company also announced a 5G modem for connection to future Windows machines.
The new Core i7-1195G7 and Core i5-1155G7 chips are part of the Intel U-series processor family, and they are up to 5GHz. Intel claims the processors offer 25% better performance than the competition, especially Intel is competing. With AMD’s Ryzen processors just becoming more prevalent on Windows machines, Intel is also touting the ability of laptop manufacturers to optimize their new processors to deliver. “Up to 8x faster transcoding and twice the video editing speed.” Here’s the breakdown:
- Core i7-1195G7: 4-core/8-thread, 2.9GHz base clock (Turbo boost up to 5.0GHz on 1-2 cores, 4.6GHz on all cores), support up to 3200Hz DDR4 memory.
- Core i5-1155G7: 4-core/8-thread, 2.5GHz base clock (Turbo boost up to 4.5GHz on 1-2 cores, 4.3GHz on all cores), support up to 3200Hz DDR4 memory.
The new Core i5 and i7 processors have compatibility for Wi-Fi 6/6E connections, so you’re finally getting your new mesh router. They come with Intel’s Iris Xe graphics chip, which allows casual PC gamers to play through their best back catalog. The Iris Xe is a laptop GPU built for current-generation processors. previewed The 11th Gen CPU with integrated graphics and the Iris Xe manages impressive frame rates over the previous integrated graphics lineup. which shows the ability to run some of the latest games at low resolutions.
But the performance of the Xe-integrated GPU is also a huge boost over Intel’s current UHD 630 graphics, which average 17 fps, and it’s still a significant leap forward for Intel’s Core i7-1065G7 Iris Plus Graphics 25 W, which averages 33 fps Xe. It’s not 1080p at 60 fps, but getting the same frame rate at higher resolutions than its predecessor Iris graphics is impressive. This is an integrated GPU! It’s not something you’d expect to pay for discrete Nvidia graphics in a gaming laptop. This is the type of chip you’ll find in a $1,000 Dell or HP laptop, and it makes gaming. although the image quality is lower
Intel says more than 60 new Intel Core i5 and i7-based devices are expected to be available during the holiday season. This includes machines from manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Lenovo and MSI, with the first batches to be released this summer.
Intel’s other important announcement is its 5G modem for laptops, the Intel 5G Solution 5000. The modem has been certified for 5G providers worldwide, partly aided by a partnership between Intel and Intel. China Mobile, MediaTek, doCoMoand HP. The company expects more than 30 machines by 2022 to ship internal 5G modems, and Acer, ASUS, and HP will be among the first manufacturers to offer their laptops.
With the promise of 5G wireless speeds like what you get in a wired environment. Looking to see if the built-in modem will become a selling point for laptops? As such features become more available. Imagine a flagship laptop capable of quickly rendering and uploading high-definition videos while you’re on the go—it sounds like it’s within your reach.
