Japan investigates subway deaths The media said Olympic officials were involved.



Tokyo police said they were investigating a fatal incident on the city’s subway. The media reports said it involved senior officials of the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC).

Private television station Nippon Television cited a source from the Metropolitan Police. It said the person worked in the JOC’s accounting department and said his death was being treated as a suspected suicide.

A police spokesman, who did not elaborate, said: Police are investigating. A JOC representative said the committee was collecting information. but did not give further details.

News of the incident is one of the most popular topics on Twitter in Japan. The Tokyo Games has been postponed a year ago due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is scheduled to begin on July 23 amid public concerns that the authorities can hold events and keep Japanese citizens safe from the spread of COIVD-19.
