Josh Duggar pleaded not guilty to possession of child pornography in court on Friday, one day after his arrest.

A federal district court judge will decide any sentence after considering U.S. judicial guidelines and other legal factors.

Duggar’s allegations were not read aloud during the trial – his attorney’s petition and court permission. His lawyer implored that “Not guilty of both charges”

Duggar’s lawyer is asking him to be released on obligation. His trial date is set for July 6, with a pre-sentencing hearing on July 1, prior to the trial and at his request to be released from prison by binding a magistrate judge. Federal Judge Erin L. Wiedemann told Duggar’s attorney that if he was eligible for release he would have to live with a third-party caregiver.

The former reality star will remain in custody on May 5.

The 33-year-old was arrested Thursday afternoon local time, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office online.

Back in 2019, the car dealer where Duggar was working was raided by Homeland Security in connection with an ongoing federal investigation, although at this time it was unclear if his raid and arrest were connected.

Earlier the same week, it was reported that Duggar’s home was also raided, although the family denied it.

He has previously been accused of sexually assaulting several of his sisters, including an unrelated fifth victim.

News of Duggar’s arrest came days after his wife Anna announced that the couple were expecting a seventh child together.
