KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has built a reputation in Malaysia as the only university to own and operate two large-scale photovoltaic power plants (LSSPV) with a total renewable energy capacity of 75MWac (92.58 MWp. )
It said in a statement on Friday that a second LSSPV plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor, had begun commercial operations.
The new LSSPV facility will add the LSSPV 61MWp facility in Gambang, Pahang, where commercial operations begin in April 2019.

UiTM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim explains that the decision to commercialize multiple LSSPV plants is part of the university’s drive to become carbon neutral while generating sustainable income for the university.
The new LSSPV facility will add a 61MWp LSSPV facility in Gambang, the campus rooftop solar power generation system, will be fully operational by the end of 2022.
“Together these installations will produce enough clean renewable electricity each year to match the university’s annual electricity consumption,” he said.
“As a university, we are working on an ambitious plan to reduce our carbon footprint and our second solar power plant is a critical new component of that plan,” he said.

RM125mil LSS 2 @ USP II, Pasir Gudang, Johor or UiTM Solar Park II operated by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd (UHSB) through the UiTM Solar Power Dua Sdn Bhd (USPDSB) unit began commercial operations on December 2,2020.
The USP II, running 31 megawatts (MWp), has 92,500 solar panels and 160 inverters.
The plant, built on 112 acres, is expected to contribute to avoiding 28,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, generating 40,000 MW of clean energy per year.

UHSB’s first LSS project in Gambang, UiTM Solar Park I (USP I) with 61MWp capacity, was successfully commercialized on April 5, 2018.
USP I and USP II were awarded by the Department of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA, or now known as the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources – KETSA) through Suruhanjaya Tenaga through the LSS competitive bidding exercise.
The two plants, USP I and USP II, were developed by UHSB’s subsidiaries, UiTM Solar Power Sdn Bhd (USPSB) and USPDSB, respectively.
The subsidiary is part of UHSB’s energy division, mainly involved in renewable energy, energy efficiency and green technology businesses.
