The effort lowered its intelligence to the ground over the weekend and backed away to allow the helicopter̵7;s solar panels to collect sunlight. The first night was a huge concern for the Ingenuity team, but NASA announced on Monday that the small aircraft had passed the first great hurdle of the era of independence.
NASA calls helicopter survival a “big step.” Mars is brutally frigid, with temperatures as low as minus 130 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 90 degrees Celsius) in the Jesero crater. It’s enough to mess with Ingenuity’s electronics and batteries, but the chopper is still there, thanks to enough insulation, heater, and battery power to keep itself warm.
Intelligence is a high-risk and high-yield demonstration of technology.NASA hopes it will represent the first ever propelled and controlled flight on another planet. Perseverance will serve as a witness from an overlooked place.
The next step is to check the impeller bonding system and test the propellers and motors. While it starts no later than April 8 for its first test flight, NASA is now looking at April 11.If it goes well, additional flight tests will be conducted.
