One of the most interesting NFL drafting classes I’ve talked about in 43 years of doing this on Saturday and it’s time for one of my favorite and most grueling exercises every year.
Before we get into my NFL draft grades, here are some nuggets I think will be interesting from this 2021 class:
Offensive players were brought along with the draft’s first seven picks, the first defenders to be off the board in the general draft era (since 1967).
Eight defenders passed the top three, having the most in a typical draft era.
And this is the first time that there are at least five wide receivers in each of the first three rounds.
That talks about the NFL̵7;s dynamics and shows the class lacks a special defender. I don’t think that will be the norm in the future.
So you want the grade I know The rule is the same as always: I grade all 32 teams using their own rankings as a prism to measure how effectively each one manages key personnel vulnerabilities and how effective each one is at Evade the board and add extra options or assets in the future.
We’ll start with the best grades and go into the worst teams, with teams of the same grade in alphabetical order:
Jump to the team:
ARI | ATL | BAL | BUF | Automobile | Chip | CIN
CLE | DAL | DEN | DET | GB | HOU | AM
JAX | KC | LV | LAC | LAR | MIA | MY
NE | NO | NYG | NYJ | PHI | PIT | SF
Sea | TB | TEN | WSH
Maximum demand: OT, CB, OLB:
The Chargers’ top two demands headed for this figure were clearly set: a left-hand fight to defend Justin Herbert and a starting caliber angle. General manager Tom Telesco hit the two first without him having to reach.
Rashawn Slater (13) is a popular character for simulated drafts, and there are some teams with higher scores than him, Penei Sewell. He has the potential to be an All-Pro winger now thanks to the addition to Corey’s free agency. The forward Linsley and Matt Feiler are also among the league’s best 10. Herbert was subjected to a total of 217 pressures last season. I said Thursday – this pick is a dream come true for the Chargers. I think Asante Samuel Jr. (47) will go faster than he does. But he can play in the slots or out as an LA rookie, upgrade with both of these options.
Wideout Josh Palmer (77) averaged 21 yards per catch in 2018, and his numbers would have been better if he had a consistent defender throwing at him.Tre ‘McKitty (97) firmly was not used as a defender. Much in his single season in Georgia. But he can block it a little bit.Chris Rumph II (118), a versatile line-player, is one of my top prospects for Day 3, and I’m curious if he’ll be a good fit in Brandons’ defense. Taley where Larry Rountree III (198), my eighth runner-back, placed 3,720 in a career running at Missouri.
Once again, Telesco cannot fill two large spaces, so this class is one of the best rooms of the year. This team definitely gets better.
