“At 1:30 I will never forget,” Cassie Stratton’s husband Mike Stratton, 40, told the Miami Herald.
A model, actress and pilates trainer woke her husband in Washington, D.C., and frantically told him their building was shaking before making shocking comments about the sinkhole.

The Washington Post reported that Stratton was on her fourth-floor balcony when she shivered and saw a poolside cave.
A structural engineer who inspected the tower last year told CNN that what Stratton saw “definitely” could be a factor in the catastrophic collapse.
Jason Borden told the network that if a pool deck or slab near the building fails or is compromised, “May affect the results.”
But he also said he wasn’t alarmed by the cracks and deterioration he noticed during the hours-long inspection.
“I saw a crack in the front of the stucco. I saw the deterioration of the concrete balcony,” Borden told John. Berman, the host of “New Day”
“I saw cracks and deterioration in the garage and plaza level. But that’s all we’re used to. And that’s why our job is on building maintenance and repair,” he added.

Borden said what he saw was typical of a 40-year-old building on the coast, adding that what he observed was consistent with the nature of the reinforcement and concrete over time. The 2018 inspection report, which identified structural damage, cracks and possibly spills under pools and garages — is “example of what we see in buildings in this era and condition.”
“They have carried out the full investigation that we have proposed to do,” he told CNN. “They have proceeded and detailed exactly what happened to the building again. It is very typical of what we see in buildings of this era, this condition.”
Borden expressed confidence in the integrity of the northern and eastern Champlain Towers.
“You know they’re taking care of their building. personally I am confident in the stability of those buildings because I used to be closely associated with Champlain Towers East,” he said.
Mike Stratton, a 66-year-old Democratic political strategist, last met his wife on June 21, before he was on a business trip to the D.C. Herald.
Senior policy adviser at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck law firm, which divides time between Denver, D.C. and Miami, said he and his wife had lived at the Champlain Towers South condo on Surfside for about four years.
He met Cassie which split the time between Miami and New York City seven years ago at a Super Bowl party in the Big Apple. They were bonded two years later.

Mike said his wife, who is originally from New Orleans. He had so many friends that he mocked the phrase, “Everybody Loves Cassie” years ago
“She’s the funniest and funniest person you can imagine,” he told the newspaper. His voice was filled with emotion. “She is full of life. We are always doing something. There are so many interesting places to go in Miami and we do it all.”
