Michigan is hiring Wolves’ all-time lead runner, Mike Hart, as the running coach behind the school, announced Wednesday.
Hart set Michigan’s record for running (5,040 yards) and executing (1,015) and 41 touchdowns as a four-year starter. He was awarded the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2004 and was the first three times selected by the All-Big Ten.He was also a twice-finalist for the Doak Walker Award and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy vote. In 2006, Hart set a team record with 28 games spanning 100 yards or more.

Hart, 34, has spent the past four years coaching running back at Indiana.
Choosing the Indianapolis Colts for the sixth round in 2008, Hart played the NFL for three seasons before training in East Michigan. He later coached running back at Western Michigan and Syracuse before joining Indiana’s team in 2017.Hoosiers promoted Hart to head coach in 2020.
Michigan last week announced a new four-year contract for Harbaugh, which is 49-22 in six seasons but at 2-4 in 2020.
