DENVER (AP) – Major League Baseball plans to move the All-Star game to Coors Field in Denver after pulling this year’s Midsummer Classic from Atlanta to oppose a change to its voting law. Georgia, according to a person familiar with the decision
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Monday night’s conditions of anonymity, as MLB has not yet announced the move. The Commission’s office is expected to announce Tuesday that the Colorado Rockies will host the event.
ESPN was the first to report the decision.
MLB pulled the July 13 game from Truist Park in Atlanta in response to Georgia’s voting rules that Republican government, Brian Kemp, swiftly signed on March 25. Coca-Cola in Atlanta has condemned. It was a change that was too harsh.
Georgia law includes new restrictions on mailing votes and greater legal controls on how to run elections amid a push in the Republican-led state to reduce voting options after. That former President Donald Trump claimed unfounded about the widespread fraud in last year’s election.
Colorado has a democratic governor in Jared Polis and a democratically controlled legislative assembly.
MLB commander Rob Manfred has decided to move All-Star events and amateur drafts from Atlanta after discussing with individual players and the Players Alliance, a black player organization formed after the death of George Floyd last year. The commander said in the testimony.
Kemp vowed to defend the measure and other Republicans have criticized the MLB’s move, Texas Gov.Greg Abbott was backed by the first throwing at the Texas Rangers home ground on Monday and It said the state would not try to host All-Star Game or any other MLB special event.
Coors Field hosted the last All-Star Game in 1998, the fourth season for the Stadium and sixth for the Rockies franchise.
It is not yet certain what types of seats might be available due to COVID-19 restrictions.The Rockies had seating capacity during their first stay with the Los Angeles Dodgers World Series champions at It has 21,363 fans, which is 42.6% of the normal capacity. The seats in the racks and the standing room areas cannot let the fans gather.
Players are not allowed to sign, autograph or throw a baseball into the stands in accordance with the MLB coronavirus protocol.
Nolan Arenado may be back with the “home” team – NL, not Rocky.
Arenado was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals during the offseason after being upset with the front office over the team’s vision, Arenado was a five-time and eight-time All-Star award winner.
Arenado remains popular at Coors Field, with fans appearing over the weekend wearing Rockies and Cardinals uniforms.There will be a sneak peek of Arenado back at Coors Field when the Cardinals play in Mile High City since that date. 1-4 July

The last time the All-Star game was in Denver, AL beat NL 13-8, with Bartolo Colon winning and Ugueth Urbina being the underdog.It had 31 hits but only three for Homer Barry Bonds taking a walk on the field. Along with Alex Rodriguez and Baltimore’s second baseman Roberto Alomar to have been selected for the MVP.
Colorado is represented at the All-Star game by Dante Bichette, Vinny Castilla, Larry Walker and coach Don Baylor.
So who knows? Possibly Bichette’s son, Bo will make this year’s All-Star Game.
