The NASA mission discovered that there may be fewer galaxies than initially believed, opening up the possibility of humanity to be alone in the universe.

The New Horizons mission, which provided the first close-up images of Pluto, provided enough information for scientists to decide how likely the number of galaxies would be in the hundreds of billions to more than 2 trillion, as originally believed.

“It’s an important figure to know how many galaxies there are,” said study lead author Marc Postman in a statement. “We can’t see light from 2 trillion galaxies”
