Nikon Announces Three New Lenses for the Z-Mount System



Nikon is doing its best to keep the promise of its rapidly expanding Z-mount lens family. and has announced three compact FX and DX format lenses: Nikkor Z DC 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR, Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE), and Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR.

With the release of the new Z fc system today, Nikon has introduced two new DX lenses to pair with this system. Along with a third lens that will be released later this year.

Nikkor Z DC 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR

This is Nikon’s smallest, stylish lens, built in satin silver to match the Z fc DC 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR. It’s a slim DX-format lens with a convenient wide-to-standard zoom range. Comfortable (24-75mm equivalent), Nikon says it will serve as a great walking lens for any scene. From landscapes and portraits to tabletop photos. The lens weighs approximately 136 g (4.8 oz), has a 46 mm filter thread, and a minimum focus distance of 0.2 m (0.66 ft) at the wide end and 0.3 m (0.99 ft) at maximum zoom.

Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE)

Nikon’s first ultra-compact and lightweight NIKKOR Z prime checks all the right boxes. As it is fast and affordable, the NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE) will make its debut as a special edition lens for the Z fc, with a design inspired by classic NIKKOR glass to match the spectacle. Unique finishing of the Z fc, the lens provides a standard angle of view (42mm equivalent when attached to a DX camera body), which is ideal for portraits or stills. The standard lens is slated for release later this year. along with a compact 40mm f/2.0 lens under development.

The lens weighs 160 g (5.7 oz), has a 52 mm filter thread, and has a minimum focus distance of 0.19 m (0.63 ft).

Developing the NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR

In addition to the above lens and the new Z fc mirrorless camera, Nikon has also announced the development of the Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR, a high-power 7.8x zoom lens for mirrorless cameras. APS-C format (DX format) lenses are slated to be available in 2021 and should be a versatile lens for users looking for a omni-directional lens.

Price and availability

The Silver NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR will be available separately from late July for $300 or immediately paired with the Z fc for $1,100. The 2.8 (SE) will be available as a bundle with the Z fc camera for $1,200 starting late July. It will be available separately in Fall 2021 for $300 SRP. No exact price or release time is expected for the NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR.
