MESA, AZ – Police arrested a Valley man on Tuesday accused of raping eight women and taking more than two decades to release.
Mesa Police said DNA technology identified John Daly III, 57, a recently retired border patrol officer, as a rape suspect.
Between July 1999 – October 2001, police investigate multiple sexual harassment cases that occurred in Mesa Gilbert, Chandler and Bisbee.
Police said the eight cases were linked by similar suspect behavior and three. (Mesa Gilbert and Bisby) are DNA paired. There was no viable lead development at the time.
Authorities said in February 2021, an investigative effort made Daly’s name, police said, a background check found Daly lived close to each sexual harassment at the time that it occurred.
In April 2021, DNA linked Daly to two rape. One mesa and one case Gilbert.
Officers from Mesa Gilbert Chandler and Bisbee Police, FBI and Border Patrol agents work together on these cases, connect, conduct interviews and gather evidence.
Police said Daly was detained in Sierra Vista, Arizona on May 4.He was booked on three of eight cases involving charges.
Police officials Bisbee said they planned to file charges in their cases and police said the other four would require further investigative efforts before charging them.
