Sam Houston State defender Eric Schmid met wide receiver Ife Adeyi for a game-winning 10-yard touchdown to keep the Bearkats 23-21 over South Dakota on Sunday.
Schmid’s touchdown pass to Adeyi came after two fourth conversions on the last drive. Sam Houston State will upset South Dakota State for his first National Football Championship (FCS) title.

“It shows that character by our kids. You’re talking about the best game and you have to make the final drive,” said Sam Houston State coach KC Keeler. Sam Houston State finished 10-0 unbeaten. South Dakota State finished 8-2 FCS played in winter and spring due to the coronavirus outbreak.
