Sega mentions Sonic Rangers in its own press release • Eurogamer.net

During Sonic’s 30th anniversary livestream, Sega has released a new Sonic game from Sonic Team that will be released in 2022.

Sega has revealed that the new Sonic game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC without naming the game. The fast-paced trailer shows nothing but a hedgehog running through the forest. And there is a mysterious symbol:

Soon, Sonic fans were poking around the innards of the trailer in search of clues. Fortunately, Sega itself has stepped in with a press release bearing the title of the game.

“Announcing the new console experience Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Sonic Rangers, more details on Netflix̵

7;s Sonic Prime, mobile news, music events and more!” Read the press release sent to Eurogamer last night via email.

The mention of Sonic Rangers seems to be a mistake. Press releases currently available online, excluding Sonic Rangers titles:

“Announcing a new console experience Sonic Colors: Ultimate and more details on Netflix’s Sonic Prime, mobile news, music events and more!”

Eurogamer was informed this morning that the original press release we received was an old version that was incorrectly shared. But there is no further information about Sonic Rangers at this time.

So, it looks like someone accidentally entered the next big Sonic game in the first promotional email outlining the announcement from a Sonic-themed virtual event.

Of course, the name Sonic Rangers doesn’t tell us much. Could the term “ranger” refer to a more open play area than we’re familiar with from previous Sonic games?
