LOS ANGELES (AP) – Spike Lee’s daughter and son have been selected as Golden Globe ambassadors to assist in the awards ceremony.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Tuesday morning that Satchel and Jackson Lee would serve as ambassadors at the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards in February.
Satchel, 26, and Jackson, 23, were the first black siblings to hold the position. Jackson was the first black male ambassador.
The couple credits the growth to their parents, Tonya Lewis Lee, a film and television producer.
“We are proud to inherit our father̵7;s storytelling legacy to draw attention to communities close to our hearts,” said Satchel Lee, Creative Director of DRØME, the quirky arts and culture magazine and Crossroads. say
Satchel chose to partner with Callen-Lorde, an organization that helps the healthcare LGBTQIA + community in New York City. Jackson is affiliated with Big Brother, Big Brother, a network of supportive volunteers.
“As a visionary creative, my father taught Satchel and I the importance of entertainment as a cultural catalyst for change,” he said.
Callen-Lorde and the Big Brothers Big Sisters will each receive a $ 25,000 HFPA grant made on behalf of Lees.
Satchel said Callen-Lorde’s selection and corporate healthcare initiatives were important for her to “support the LGBT + community, because that’s my community. Everything I do, I just give back to the many people and communities that have given me. ”
Jackson said he chose the Big Sisters in an effort to mentor them the same way his father suggested.
“Having a mentor for my father changed my life,” he said. “Giving other people and people younger than me was a pay-forward. It felt like a duty that I had to do. “
