India saw a record 401,993 new coronavirus cases each day on Saturday as the country opened up a massive vaccination to all adults, although several states warned of an acute shortage.
For the first time, India̵7;s daily number of cases has hit 400,000, after 10 consecutive days of more than 300,000, the deaths from Covid-19 have increased 3,523 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in India to 211,853 according to official data
The world’s largest maker of the Covid-19 vaccine has a limited supply, making a horrific second wave of infections flooding hospitals and morgue as families vie for rare drugs and oxygen.
Hundreds of people were seen queuing for vaccinations across Ahmedabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s main commercial city, on Saturday.

Modi expressed condolences to the family of the hospital fire victims on Twitter hours after he posted a picture of himself praying at a Sikh temple in the capital New Delhi.
Some experts have blamed numerous religious and political rallies for India’s second wave of violence that left the government unprepared.
The Scientific Advisory Forum, set up by the Modi administration, warned Indian officials in early March about new and widespread coronavirus strains in the country. Forum told Reuters.
Despite the warnings, four scientists said the federal government had not tried to impose significant restrictions on controlling the spread of the virus.
Millions, most of them, were not disclosed to religious rallies and electoral rallies held by Modi, Bharatiya Janata party leader and opposition politician.
The total number of COVID-infected cases in India has reached 19 million, while the second wave has been increasing.India has added about 7.7 million cases since late February, according to Reuters counts. In contrast, India took almost six months to add to the previous 7.7 million cases.
The case prompted US President Joe Biden to impose new travel restrictions in India on Friday, barring most non-US citizens from entering the United States.
Australian officials said residents and citizens residing in India within 14 days of the date they plan to return home will be barred from entering Australia on Monday and disobedient people will face fines and imprisonment.
Other countries and territories have imposed similar travel restrictions in India such as Britain, Germany, Italy and Singapore, while Canada, Hong Kong and New Zealand have suspended all commercial travel with India.
