Texas woman caught feeding spider monkeys After she climbed into an exhibit at the El Paso Zoo, she was arrested, police said.
The woman, 26-year-old Luz Elizabeth Rae, is incarcerated in El Paso County Detention Center for criminal trespassing. According to a police press release
“A woman seen on social media in a video of intruding monkeys at the El Paso Zoo exhibits stepping across the muddy water. has been arrested,” the department wrote.
Online detention records show Rae was released Thursday.
A stunt at the zoo led Rae to lose her job at law firm Lovette. The company said on Monday she was fired and called her behavior “unfair”;. “Lack of responsibility and carelessness”
“We support El Paso Zoo and send our thoughts to Spider Monkeys, Libby and Sunday and hope they will recover from this traumatic experience,” the company said in a statement.
Videos posted on social media show Rae sitting on a rock inside a cage that appears to be throwing food at two monkeys.
Zoo director Joe Montisano told the El Paso Times that Rae’s behavior was “stupid” and dangerous.
“This is primates. They are strong. They have canine teeth, they can scratch, we don’t interact with them every day,” he told the newspaper. “And we will not interact with them without any barriers between us.”
