A mom and dad in Massachusetts sent a thank you letter to the police and his department for helping find her daughter and friend after they disappeared.

Heidi Tridello Mattern, 5, was unaware that a walk away from Raymond Park in Cambridge from a nanny’s perspective would send her parents into panic Monday afternoon.

“So my friends and I played in the park and then we disappeared,” said Heidi.

“I miss the worst that will happen,” said Giada Tridello, the mother of Martyn.

Heidi’s parents quickly called the Cambridge Police Department.

“I saw them from the front of the house running with their toy cars to the playground,” Tridello Mattern said. “They saw her with surveillance cameras from the school not far away, and they asked the neighborhood.”

“We have an area full of police officers,” said Cambridge Police Officer Stephen Lyons. “All the detectives came up to help”

Lyon finds the missing girl about half an hour in search at an intersection a few blocks from the park.

“I thought, ‘Oh my god, can this be them? Am I lucky to see them?’ ” Said the officer.

Since members of the K-9 Cambridge police visit Heidi on her birthday in April, she has wanted to be a policeman herself. She admires the staff and her parents are deeply grateful to them.

“You brought our daughter home. It’s the biggest gift someone can give us,” said Tridello Mattern. “So thank you. She went home because of her.”

“It’s good to be paid for doing this job. But it was a time that really made a difference, ”said Lyons.“ That’s what makes a career. ”

Lyons said one of the keys was that Heidi’s parents called the police within 10 minutes of their daughter and her friend disappearing. He said the minutes count in these situations.
