The Atlanta Hawks have been popular since they replaced Lloyd Pierce with Nate McMillan as their coach. With Tuesday̵

7;s victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, the Hawks have moved 13-4 since McMillan took over. Still, they can’t predict how hot they will be in the third quarter of their last victory.

Hawk and Egret tied at 61 at halftime. That’s averaging more than 30 points per quarter for both teams. Not too shabby. Atlanta then took another step. They were down 46 points in the third quarter due to their historic shootout in the third quarter’s 12 minutes. The Hawks shot 11 against 11 in 3 pointers.

Unsurprisingly, the Hawks set the record for the most 3-pointers, with a team in a quarter without missing the Cleveland Cavaliers ever recorded at 9v9, so the Hawks destroyed it with breathing room. For the overall game, the Hawks shot 64.1 percent from behind the arc on making 20 of 31 they scored 123 points in the game, a relatively modest sum compared to their explosive third quarter. But with the fourth quarter being slightly more efficient than junk time, Atlanta had little need to score more than 16.

Obviously, this level of fire was unsustainable. Rather, it is a fitting demonstration of their latest achievement. The hawk is getting healthier and shaking at the right time Tuesday is the best offense of the season. But they should continue to grow from here.
