PHOENIX — The LA Clippers will have to intercept the elimination in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals without Ivica Zubac being a starter.
Zubac was disqualified ahead of Monday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns due to a right-sided MCL injury he sustained in Game 4. The 7-footer was identified as suspicious in an injury report on Monday afternoon.
Zubac emerged as a key player for the Clippers in their final meeting with Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton. Zubac had three straight doubles, including 15 points and 16 rebounds in the Clippers’ 106-92 win in that game. 3. He had 13 points and 14 rebounds in 40 minutes in the Clippers’ 84-80 defeat in Game 4.
When Zubac left, Clippers coach Ty Lue said DeMarcus Cousins expected to see more minutes and it would be offensive.
Rumor said that while the team were encouraged in the morning’s shootout about beating a 3-1 series deficit, the players were upset when they learned of Subak’s injury.
