Streets Of Rage 4 tackled a rare trick last year, delighting fans of the Punch-and-go series while modernizing the recipe for new players who have never eaten ground chicken. Before now, there was a DLC on the way. The Mr.X Nightmare DLC adds three new playable characters, along with a new weapon and a survival game mode.
The first new playable character is revealed in the trailer above as Estel Aguirre, a special forces officer who appears as one of the bosses you fight in the base game. I don̵7;t think she will slap you with a giant otter in Streets Of Rage 4, but that’s one of the new weapons you can choose from, as shown in the trailer above.
In addition to the DLC, Streets Of Rage 4 is getting a free update to add a new difficulty, a new Mania +, a new training system, and new palette options. I was particularly interested in the training system because I played Streets Of Rage 4 for an hour, and most of the time was spent roasting as much as the chicken you could eat to restore your health.
The Mr. X Nightmare DLC also includes a new track, including a track from Tee Lopes, a composer who previously worked with Sonic Mania. That didn’t mean much to me. But I know from watching Colm’s excellent video review (embedded below) that the song is hugely interesting.Plus, Colm likes Sonic because he was wrong.
If you can’t watch the video, check out Brendy’s separate Streets Of Rage 4 review to see if the game is right for you.
There is no release date yet in the Mr.X Nightmare DLC, although you can display your wishlist on Steam.
