There’s something different about the meme-stock sequel.

The meme-stock craze is back, but this time it’s a little different.

Firstly, the similarity with AMC Entertainment.
+35.58%,
The movie network operator jumped 36 percent on Thursday. and has more than doubled over the past four days. Of course, there is no fundamental news to drive such a rapid rise. and vice versa Cineworld Group CNWGY
-23.08%,
US and UK theater operators are up 8% over the past five days. Short sellers lost $1

.3 billion in AMC surge, Bloomberg News reported, citing data from S3 Partners.

And it’s not just AMC, the game stops GME,
+4.77%,
Video game retailer up 49% over the past five days and Beyond Meat BYND
+12.52%,
Meat substitute producers rose 32% during that time. Stock market volumes on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ on Thursday were the strongest since March 19.

Options activity isn’t quite as exciting — still going strong. But below its February peak, Bespoke Investment Group analyst George Pearks pointed out the Cboe VIX Volatility Index,
,
Unlike the situation in February that was limited.

The broader market is eyeing, among other things, an economic recovery and whether rising inflation will cause the Federal Reserve to brake sooner than intended. As anyone who has made money for AMC knows, sequels don’t do the same.

Inflation data on tap

The Fed’s preferred PCE price index is scheduled to launch with personal income data in April. There are also preliminary reports on trade and inventories. And consumer confidence data about production and consumers in the Chicago area will be released shortly after launch.

The White House’s budget isn’t much more than that — it’s just what the administration thinks lawmakers should do. And often the offer has no effect on reality. But seeing the news that President Joe Biden’s proposed $6 trillion budget remains something to watch. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the budget proposal would result in a lower tax deficit and higher tax revenue going forward.
