Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Serena Williams Confirms Not Playing at the Summer Olympics



Williams told reporters ahead of the 2021 Wimbledon start on Sunday: “I’m actually not on the Olympic list … not that I know. And if so, then I shouldn’t be with it.”

She did not reveal why she decided to forgo the delayed Summer Games.

“There were a lot of reasons I decided on the Olympics,” said the 39-year-old American. “I really don’t want… I don’t want to interfere with them today, maybe another day, sorry.”

She continued: “In the past (Olympics) was a great place for me. But I didn’t really miss it. So I won’t think about it any further.”

The Olympics are scheduled to begin on July 23.

She has won four Olympic gold medals from her prestigious career after making her Sydney Games debut in 2000.

Williams won a gold medal in doubles in Sydney in 2000, as well as a gold in London 2012 singles and women’s doubles, and another gold in Beijing 2008 doubles.

Williams will be looking to win a record 24th Major and eighth Wimbledon when the famous tournament kicks off on Tuesday. when she faced Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus in the first round.
