Twitter has previously confirmed that it is exploring a paid subscription model for certain features, and app researcher Jane Manchun Wong tweeted Saturday that she discovered how much it costs and will call it. What Twitter Blue Wong says will cost $ 2.99 per month and will include an undo, tweet and bookmark collection feature. Wong said it looks like Twitter is working on a tiered subscription model, which she posts could mean a clutter-free premium experience for the highest paying members.
Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Verge On Saturday, however, the company often does not confirm or comment on Wong̵7;s generally valid discoveries of new features prior to launch.
Twitter has announced a new product over the past several weeks, updating its warnings for potentially inappropriate tweets, enhancing its image cropping algorithm to make “taller” images appear in users’ feeds in a timely manner. Fully enhanced search capabilities for Android users, their private messages, and introduced a Tip Jar feature to allow users to donate to creators, journalists, experts and nonprofits. (Although lastly, there are privacy concerns about the user data included with the tips)
And earlier this month, Twitter bought Scroll, a $ 5-a-month subscription service that removes ads from participating websites. With the Scroll announcement, Twitter also said it would shut down Nuzzel, a Scroll service that emails users’ top stories every day in their Twitter feed.
In its first-quarter earnings report late last month, Twitter posted a profit of $ 68 million on revenue of $ 1.04 billion.The company reported a 20 percent increase in daily active users.
There’s no word yet on when the paid premium version of Twitter will be released or who will be eligible.
