Two teenage girls die in ATV accident, coroner says



Two northern teenage girls, who the coroner say are best friends, were killed in an ATV crash Thursday in Laurens County. The accident happened at 4:40 p.m. on Milton Road in Joanna, according to Trooper Joe Hovis with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.According to Hovis, the trailer was traveling south on Milton Road, the ATV was traveling. West Pickens Street and attempted to cross Milton Road when it crashed a trailer, Hovis said, according to Hovis, the ATV driver and passenger, not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The coroner identified the victims as 14-year-old Jasmine Peak from Joanna and 14-year-old Madison Simmons from Gray Court.The coroner said the girl was a best friend. The accident occurred at 4:40 p.m. on Milton Road in Joanna, according to Trooper Joe Hovis with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to Hovis, the trailer was traveling south on Milton Road.

An ATV was traveling west on Pickens Road and trying to cross Milton when it hit a trailer, Hovis said.

According to Hovis, the ATV’s driver and passenger did not wear a helmet and died at the scene.

The coroner identified the victims as 14-year-old Jasmine Peak from Joanna and 14-year-old Madison Simmons from Gray Court.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
